First of all someone could have told me I didn't spell roller coaster right. I don't care if I spell a million things wrong in the blog itself (b/c I just write and try not to think much about it) but maybe the title could be right. Thankfully I looked at it myself and was like great it has been like that for an entire day! Fabulous. No I was never in a spelling bee!!
Halloween!! Not my favorite holiday but not my least favorite either. For me it serves as a chance to take more pictures of the kids (like I don't have enough already). Kids had a great time. My grandma used to make my kids costumes and they were the cutest ever but now we just buy store bought so I don't get that excited about it. Nick and Alexis are old enough they tell me what they want. I still had some control over the little ones. Clark has fun with his last minute pumpkin carving and decorations. He tries to do something different every year. This year was the pumpkin totem pole. It turned out cool I gotta admit. Pictures on my facebook page. Babies were Thomas, James and Percey. They were cute. Nick and Alexis were Harry Potter and Hermione. Nick really does make the perfect Harry Potter. He looks just like him! We have a ton of left over candy. I always worry I will run out so I buy so much more than we actually need. I think I will just take it to work and let the girls eat it.
We also had Nick's family birthday party. Really it was just my parents and my grandma who came. My sister and her kids came to kid one on Friday. We have such a small family on my side and all of Clark's family is in California. He got lots of fun toys. His favorite gifts were the wands from Harry Potter movie and this lego that had Jabba the hutt in it. It was a small lego with only like just over 200 pieces but my mom paid over $250.00 for it. CRAZY! He really wanted Jabba the hutt, and they have been discontinued. The only other one cost 500. I know he would never have gotten it from me that is for sure. I am way to cheap for that. It was good to see my grandma. I have missed her. My mom.....well like usual she drove me a little crazy. She asked what I wanted for Christmas. I told her I needed clothes. She said no b/c I was going to get big again now that I am not running and so she can't predict sizes. Ummm....thanks, that made me feel great!! Need to start back with my lose it app on phone just to be sure she is not right!
Moving on to my title:
I will say every year Halloween brings back some crazy memories of the year I was spooked more than ever!! You all have heard this story a million times but here it goes again. It was Halloween 2006. After a year of trying for the third and final child and going thru 2 rounds of clomid and now one round of follicle stimulating hormone I knew I was pregnant and had my first US scheduled on Halloween with my REI doctor. During the fertility treatments at no point did anyone mention to me that they were worried I was going to have multiples. Never even had any follicles the perfect size. In my mind when I started fertility I thought worst case I would have twins, and I was ok with that. I didn't know anyone with more than twins at the time. After I knew I was pregnant I had Clark US me first at 5 weeks and he saw two black circles with nothing in it so he wasn't sure I was pregant or if there was one or worst case 2 babies. So I was prepared for that going into my ultrasound on Halloween. What I could never have prepared myself for was when my REI counted not one, not two, but three babies. THREE! I didn't say a word. I just had tears streaming down my face. I was in shock. I could not speak. He had me get dressed and meet him in conference room. Now I should mention the REI was Clark's mentor in residency so we were friends. We met in the conference room and he tried telling me over and over that he thought only 2 were going to take. He also said if I was having triplets I would never finish residency. He really felt awful and was quite sorry b/c I think he thought we just ruined our life. I didn't say a word. I just kept crying. We left and Clark had to go back to work. I was stuck with myself and all these emotions. Did I mention I was in shock. I called my sister first and my best friend Cathy second. To both I was screaming, "there are 3, there are 3, there are 3." I didn't really know what to do with myself at this point. I am not good at keeping things in (I know hard to imagine huh) so I just felt like I needed to go talk to my residency director right then. I went straight from the appointment to Riley Hospital. I didn't check to see if he was in middle of meeting with anyone or busy. Nope. I burst thru Dr. Rushton's door and with tears flowing down my face said, "I just ruined my life, I have to talk to you now." Now Dr. Rushton, who I love dearly, is not so good with crying women, so I am sure this was not fun for him. I explained the situation and he tried to comfort me and give me some hope that it did not necessarily mean I was going to have three 24 weekers. His neighbor has triplets that are healthy normal kids so he told me about them. I think he wanted me to wait to tell the Chiefs but nope I went directly from his office to theirs. So the residency knew and got to witness a hysterical (and I mean hysterical) Christy.
Next I had to tell my mom. Once again for sure she was gonna kill me. She was against the fertility treatments from the start. I went to her house and much like when I found out I was pregnant with Nick and afraid she was going to kill me, she was not home. I had to tell her on the phone. She didn't flip and was assuming (incorrectly) I was going to tell her Clark and I were separating. When I told her why I was crying she said, "Oh 3 babies...we can handle that, no big deal." Ok that was an unexpected response but sometimes it takes my mom a day or two to flip out. She later did. I spent Halloween night passing out candy with my best friend Cathy freaking out! I was spooked to say the least. No Halloween will ever be the same!!
In the end what initially felt like a horrible horrible TRICK 4 years ago today, turned out to be the sweetest TREAT I could have imagined. My life did not end and has only been enriched by the result of that 3rd and final pregnancy!!
Have a great night!

9 Years Ago Today....
Ok I have been up starring at the clock since 4am so I just decided to get up and write. This is what happens when you go to bed at 9pm I guess.
So, 9 years ago today I gave birth to my first child, Nick! I have always called him my best surprise ever. The pregnancy could not have come at a worse time in my life. I was going thru the big D and Clark and I had not been together all that long. I only mention that b/c I have always said I will never deny my past and b/c it does not take a math whiz to figure out I was pregnant before I got married. Married however before I had Nick. I always said I was a Christian growing up but did not necessarily live like one. I can happily say that for the last 9 years I have re given my life to God and now for the most part (b/c nobody is perfect) actually live a much more Christian (no regrets) life.
Ok back to the story...Clark and I met in medical school, started dating then several months later went to Mexico for spring break. We went deep sea fishing and I was super nauseated the entire time. I thought this was because I was on a small boat and the water was rough. The entire trip I was crazy tired. I simply could not get enough sleep. It was weird but I thought nothing about it. I was still nauseated when I got home. I figured that was just b/c I had been in Mexico. I was sure I had eaten or drank something bad. At no point did pregnancy cross my mind b/c I was on the pill. So it might not have crossed my mind but it crossed Clark's. He wanted me to take a pregnancy test. I thought fine but there is NO way it will be positive. I was not at all nervous taking it b/c again I was on the pill. No chance I was pregnant. I remember taking it and throwing it in the trash saying,"see I am not pregnant." Then I looked at it a second time and was like holy crap what does 2 lines mean. 2 very bright lines that is. Ok so I thought this has got to be a mistake (yeah right like I somehow got the defective one). So off to the store we go to get another one. Same result. Still did not believe it but was definitely nervous at this point. Called my GYN at the time and said I needed a blood test. Ok at this point no more denials. I was pregnant. 4-5 weeks pregnant. I was flipping b/c all this time I was on the pill (often skipped placebo so as to avoid a certain something otherwise I would have known sooner) and come on we were just in Mexico so there was some drinking involved (which I would have never done if I had known). Freaking out. I was sooo nervous to tell my mom. Sure she was going to kill me. We actually drove to her house b/c I thought better in person. She was not there. I called my sister and told her first. I felt horrible b/c she had been going thru all this failed fertility stuff at the time and here I was on the pill and pregnant with the first grandchild. She handled it well. Mom called me later that night assuming I had just stopped by to tell her about the trip. I told her on the phone. I don't keep secrets long. I am someone who just has to get it out right away. Her first words were, "You will not be getting an abortion." Wow she really doesn't know me at all. I DON'T believe in abortion. The thought NEVER crossed my mind. NEVER!! There are very few things I could say never about but this is one I can. NEVER. Her next comment was, "well we won't be celebrating this at all." Funny how 9 years later many would argue Nick is her favorite (although that annoys my sister and I b/c you should not have favorites). She loves him and there is NOTHING she would not do for this child!!!
So that was that. Everyone knew! Clark and I got married when I was 5months pregnant and despite everyone's predictions that we would never last we have been together ever since. See if you have God in the center of your marriage holding it together.... it will last. Plus I try not to make the same mistake twice. I love my husband and we love our family. Did it start out in the best order.... no. Did we prove that you can be forgiven and live a Christian life after all...yes!!
The pregnancy went fine. Sick. Had heartburn something awful. Drank a lot of MacDonald's milk shakes b/c it made it feel better. Started at 117 pounds. Gained 50 and have never seen 117 on the scale again. I was induced at 39 weeks. My aunt was my OB. It was a long day of waiting. I only wanted my husband and my sister in the room but honestly at the time I actually delivered everyone was in there. It is true all modesty goes out the window and you no longer care. I had a super easily delivery. 3 pushes or so and at 12:41am I had the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. I say this as one who does not really think babies that just come out are beautiful (even my own other 4) but Nick was seriously one of the most beautiful babies ever. He was so clean coming out (unlike his sister..yuck) and his head shape was perfect. Even his cord looked cool. I didn't cry. I am not an emotional person usually (this last month does not count). Looking back at pictures, Clark had tears in his eyes for sure.
He was a hard baby. Now I assume some of that was b/c he was the first. I tolerated a whole lot more crying the next go round. My theory hard baby, great kid held true with him. He is amazing. He has a huge heart. He was been so fun to watch grow up. I could not have asked for a better first child. He will never have to question that he was loved and celebrated as I have a million more pictures of him as a baby compared to all my other children:) The best surprise I ever got. That's my Nick. While I will always wish the timing was different, neither Clark nor I will ever regret bringing him into this world. I am honored to be his mother. I love him more than words can express. We WILL celebrate him always and forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
